Taaleri Aurinkotuuli is Finland’s first international private equity fund investing in renewable energy, and the focus of its investments is on solar energy and wind power.

Taaleri’s response to the revolution in the global energy markets was to establish the Aurinkotuuli fund, which was opened to investors in late 2016. Over a period of six months, the fund accumulated investment commitments worth approximately €87 million from a total of some 500 investors.

Aurinkotuuli seeks long-term, steady and predictable returns on its invested capital. The fund invests in projects under construction and plants already in production, primarily those producing solar energy and wind power. There are four projects in the fund’s portfolio – a solar energy project in Jordan (200 MW), two wind farms in Sweden (37 MW) and a wind farm in Serbia (158 MW).

Global political consensus on the benefits of emission-free energy now exists and, at the same time, production technology has advanced in leaps and bounds. Making renewable energy competitive with traditional forms of production makes compliance with the commitments of the Paris Climate Change Agreement possible. Because of this, the production capacities of both solar and wind power are expected to increase explosively by the end of 2020.

Investors in the Aurinkotuuli Fund can combine the financial aims of investment and the benefits of renewable energy in order to reach the targets of the Paris agreement. The fund is also a solution from a perspective of sustainable development – an opportunity to reduce the carbon footprint. The fund’s renewable energy projects are still under construction but, once complete, it is expected that they will reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by up to 200,000 tonnes.

The fund has been closed and is no longer accepting new investors.
